Purpose
A brief course for teaching students the fundamentals of the design and manufacturing of clothing. A hands on education which follows the process from conception to completion. Teaching students the design, and production and basic marketing of clothing. The curriculum is oriented to demonstrate the importance of to Math and Science as it relates to the design process and the craft of tailoring. The target group will be boys and girls age 13 – 18, as well as the adult education sector as there is strong demand for instruction of this trade, as a leisure pursuit.
Class size and duration
Classes should be of approximately 4 to 8 students. One hour classes for a period of five (5) days would constitute a course. The total program would consist of 4 courses, textile, design, sewing, and marketing. As the four courses progress, each student would design, make a pattern of that design, sew the garment, and create a concept for marketing.

1. Textile, basic organic and synthetic fibers used for cloth, the spinning process, the loom and knitting techniques, dyeing and printing fabric, forms of grading cloth by weight and quality, sewing characteristics of various cloths and introduction to the thimble and sewing machine.
2. Design, introduction to patterns, measurements, the tailors square, making changes to existing patterns, design of a basic pattern, lay out, cutting. (item to be made by each student would be either a top/shirt or a pant/skirt).
3. Sewing, The thimble and the sewing machine have been introduced earlier in the first course and with a little at home practice students would be proficient enough to begin with basic sewing. The garment is put together, as well as a pocket is made from scrap, and a hand sewn button hone is sewn.
4. Marketing, An overview of the industry, off-shore manufacturing, wholesale, retail, advertising, fashion, modeling, custom tailoring, sales, and business fundamentals
