custom clothing workshop.

Over ten years ago I began a project to build a shop in Chile that would make a true hand made garment. The original concept was to make a true handmade suit  for the American buyer. I had intended on selling these clothes directly our of our own stores.  Many factors made this project difficult. First and fore most was the quality of these clothes. It took all of those ten years to train this shop to truly make the quality of clothes needed for this over $5000.00 suit.

I am a tailor and possibly a businessman, I was never able to build or find someone in time to attend to the retail end of this project. This past year I closed the shop and placed all the equipment in storage.

Over my lifetime as a tailor and in particular these past ten years I have learned many things. In particular, I believe, I should have started this project with a moderatly priced custom suit product, and then developed the high end hand made suit.

I would like to find a partnership with someone that has the capital to restart this project making a custom suit retailing in the $600.00 range.

Besides the ten years of experiance making hand made custom clothing for U.S.A. delivery, we have the following...

We have the clothe inventory, patterns and equiptment.

Our shop, is set to make a lower priced coat and trouser

and these are difficult time,  but we are approaching the bottom

We no longer have a retailer to make clothes for therefore  we have shut down and now look to work for  someone that would  take over this project.

This shop its equipment, supplies and cloth inventory  will give you a ready shop to make these clothes in the fashion and make of your choice. We were making a true hand made garment but we can make a much less expensive garment that will cost,

We are a small shop that can work with between 4 to 12 employees, with a weekly production of 5 to 20 suits per week. This shop is designed to work in English, with inches, and with the terminologies used in the U.S. custom trade. We are located 10 minutes outside of Vina Del Mar, Chile, and part of a disperse metropolitan region with excellent qualified tailoring labor resources.

The time required to make a manufactured coat is measured in minutes and as low as 27 minutes. Ours by contrast requires between 35 to 40 hours. It is my understanding that manufactured coats that are hand made like Oxxford and Brioni have manufacture times of 15 to 20 hours. Our labor cost for five employees is about $750. dollars per week, we can produce one coat and trouser or suit per day... making the labor cost per suit/unit in the neighborhood of $110.00 dollars. With ten or more employees there are economies of scale advantages that can lower this labor cost buy as much as 50%. If you currently make custom clothing in the States, you can apply your method of making to give you a sister shop that can make for lower costs to complement the shop you currently make from.

We could make a garment with less hand work significantly lowering the final cost of the garment. Savings can also be gained in ready to wear clothing not only in the cost of production but also in shipping.

The final cost of the suit would also include a monthly lease payment, utilities, supplies, linings, shipping and of course the cloth. For greater detail of projected cost visit "the shop" page. I estimate the final cost of the cut make and trim of a suit to be approximately $350.00 with 5 workers and $200 with 10 workers.

The lease price is  $2500.00,00 per month  with a term of 1 to 30 years. This lease would include the following.

1. Commercial  location.

2. Sewing room with 7 sewing/ironing stations, 1 cutting room, 3 Storage rooms with cloth and supplies inventories.

3. Large second floor executive office, Administrative first floor office, and employee kitchen and dining room.

4. Three networked computers with printers and scanners, excellent administrative database and spread sheet in place.

5.Full set of patterns as well as a Ioline Studio A plotter.

We currently have cloth inventory and swatch books of over 5000 yards which I offer at $20.00/yard for use in making orders.
